Lilwin sets sights on Hollywood stars for his next movie

Ghanaian actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, is aiming higher in his filmmaking journey.

Following the success of his latest movie, A Country Called Ghana, which featured top Nigerian actors, Lilwin has set his sights on an even more ambitious project—to bring Hollywood stars to Africa.

With the right financial backing, he hopes to feature internationally recognized actors in his upcoming production, A Journey to Africa.

“I know some people will mock my ambition, but I believe in my abilities,” Lilwin told Graphic Showbiz. “If I receive the necessary private or government funding, I can bring Hollywood actors on board for A Journey to Africa.”

He emphasized that his goal is to elevate Ghana’s film industry while maintaining his relevance. “I want to see this industry grow. That’s why I’m calling on the government and private investors for support.”

For A Country Called Ghana, Lilwin enlisted renowned Nigerian actors Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum, and Victor Osuagwu (also known as Awilo Sharp Sharp).

He revealed that he paid Ramsey Nouah $40,000 (GHS 621,241) for his role and spent approximately $100,000 on marketing, including purchasing and branding a vehicle to promote the film.

“As you can see, everything in this industry depends on money. If I had the funds, no actor—no matter where they’re from—would turn down my offer,” he stated. “But unfortunately, I don’t have that kind of financial power.”

Lilwin also offered advice to his colleagues, urging them to take initiative rather than waiting for roles.

“The industry is struggling due to a lack of investment, and that has forced many of us to finance our own productions,” he explained. “My message to my fellow actors is simple: don’t sit idle waiting for a producer to cast you. If you have the means, create your own projects.”

Proudly, he shared that all his films and TV productions have been self-funded without any external financial assistance.

“Now imagine the kind of quality productions I could deliver if I had an investor backing me,” he added.

Lilwin stands by the quality of his work, calling A Country Called Ghana one of the best productions in recent times, comparable to the Ghanaian classic I Told You So.

The film has already received industry recognition, winning Best Indigenous Film at the 2024 Nollywood Film Festival, along with awards for Best Production Design and Best Make-Up at the 2024 Imo International Film Festival.

With his sights set on Hollywood collaborations, Lilwin is determined to push African cinema onto the global stage—one ambitious project at a time.
