DKB Tells Ghanaians to Trust Mahama on Galamsey

Ghanaian comedian DKB

Comedian DKB has brushed aside calls for a nationwide protest against illegal mining, telling Ghanaians that faith in President John Mahama’s leadership is a better option than taking to the streets.

In a video posted online, DKB argued that Mahama had already demonstrated his ability to deliver solutions during Ghana’s energy crisis, popularly called dumsor, and could be trusted to do the same with galamsey.

“Yo, this is my message to those who want to organise the anti-galamsey demonstration. Listen, when JM, President Mahama, tells you he is working on something, he is really working on it. He’s not like the others,” DKB said.

He reminded Ghanaians that during the height of dumsor, despite demonstrations and public pressure, Mahama rolled out practical measures that stabilized power supply.

“I remember the Dumsor video. He said he was working on the Dumsor. We thought he was playing, so we went to the demonstration. Yeah, yeah, yeah. In the end, who solved Dumsor for us? This year, 9 months, not a single night or day of darkness,” he recounted.

For that reason, he maintained, demonstrations over galamsey were unnecessary. “You understand? So if JM says he’s working on it, he is working on it. He is not lying. He doesn’t do Chandam and Vandam. But if you insist, I want to inform you that if you insist on doing the anti-galamsey demonstration, don’t panic.”

Still, DKB emphasized that Mahama would not stifle public expression.

“JM practises democracy. He doesn’t fear demonstration. He sees it as a form of expression. Do you know what? When we were going to the dumsor demonstration, the day of the demonstration, he came to fix street lights for us so that we would not fall into a gutter,” he said.

With a touch of humor, he added that anyone who marches might even enjoy some perks. “Imagine! So, you that you want to do your anti-galamsey demonstration, just know that the day of your demonstration, he will organise sound system and brass band for you, for you to enjoy yourself. He will come and share free water.”
