Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame, privately known as Kwame Nsiah-Apau, has opened up about the emotional impact of losing Ghana’s former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. His reflection came after a visit to the Rawlings family, where words seemed insufficient to ease their sorrow.
“My father died a long time ago, and I still cry sometimes because I miss him dearly. My mother is still alive, but I know that no amount of meditation and mindfulness can prepare me for her departure,” he shared, expressing the depth of his own grief.
Kwame painted a vivid picture of Nana Konadu’s strength and warmth. “Awww awww ohhhhh Mrs. Agyemang Konadu was so strong. She was so full of life and smiles. She was that example I could point to when I was telling young girls to see the potential in men instead of their cash and power. She was a powerhouse of strength, patience, and dedication,” he said.
He described her as more than a public figure, calling her a “mum and motivator.” The rapper recounted a touching moment with Nana Konadu’s youngest daughter, who referred to him as “Mummy’s other son,” a gesture that overwhelmed him with emotion.
In an effort to honour her life, Okyeame Kwame revealed that he will channel his sorrow into music. “I will put my pain in a song for such a great woman. Da yie!” he wrote, promising a musical tribute to celebrate her enduring influence and legacy.
Since her demise on Thursday, October 23, at Ridge Hospital in Accra, tributes have poured in from across Ghana, highlighting the profound impact Nana Konadu had both as a leader and a source of inspiration.
