Jack Alolome Recounts Betrayal and Backstabbing in Ghana’s Gospel Music Industry
Veteran Ghanaian gospel artiste, Jack Alolome, has shared unsettling personal experiences that reflect deeper tensions within Ghana’s gospel music space, revealing how envy and betrayal have shaped his journey in the industry.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the ‘Asokye’ singer detailed how a fellow gospel musician outright refused to collaborate with him, simply because he believed the track would become a major success.
“That person told me he wouldn’t because it would be a hit and I would get all the fame, so he wouldn’t work with me,” Alolome recalled.
Beyond artistic rivalry, Alolome opened up about a more personal act of sabotage. He recounted helping a colleague secure documents for international travel by connecting him to a bank manager friend. But when it was his turn to seek a visa for his own trip abroad, the same person reportedly undermined his chances behind the scenes.
“I never considered travelling out because I didn’t see any reason to, and I didn’t have anyone to host me if I went.
But when the opportunity came, I just decided to do so anyway. So I went for my documents and came back only to be shocked when the person said that my colleague, whom I had earlier helped, had called him to tell him not to process my visa for me because I would not return,” the Ghanaian gospel singer averred.
According to Jack Alolome, the experience was both painful and eye-opening. What he once saw as camaraderie turned out to be laced with competition and sabotage.
His revelations come as more gospel artistes speak out about similar struggles, ranging from spiritual attacks to professional jealousy, within a sector often perceived as unified by faith.
