After Heated Family Clash, New Funeral Date Announced for Daddy Lumba

Daddy Lumba

The family of the late Highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known to many as Daddy Lumba, has announced a new date for his final funeral rites after weeks of tension and dispute within the family.

The new date, December 13, 2025, was confirmed after a ruling by the Saamanhene of the Asantehene’s Traditional Council, who intervened to resolve the disagreements that had stalled preparations.

Originally, the family had set December 6, 2025, for the burial ceremony. However, the decision sparked conflict between family head Kofi Owusu and the musician’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, who accused him of sidelining her in funeral planning.

Ernestina petitioned the traditional authorities, alleging that the family head had made key decisions about the funeral without consulting her. She also requested that the existing funeral committee be dissolved and that Akosua Serwaa, the musician’s first wife, be acknowledged as the rightful widow.

In response, the traditional council summoned both parties to appear on November 10, 2025, to settle the matter. After deliberations, the council ordered that the funeral be rescheduled to December 13 and directed that the earlier committee be disbanded.

The council further instructed Ernestina Fosu to lead an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her brother’s death.

However, the issue regarding who should perform the widowhood rites remains unresolved, as the traditional leaders clarified that the matter is already before the court. They urged all parties to respect the legal process while the court determines the rightful widow.
