The family of the late Highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, says the confusion surrounding his funeral arrangements has reached an alarming level, prompting them to call out what they describe as reckless and unauthorized actions by individuals once tasked with helping plan the ceremony.
In a statement released on November 24, the family said they were shocked to find funeral billboards and public notices advertising a December burial date that was never finalized. They explained that the date had only been floated during preliminary talks with Nananom and was never approved by the Abusuapanyin or the newly constituted committee.
According to the family, pushing out a date on their behalf without consent is both insensitive and destabilizing, especially as they continue to mourn while dealing with legal matters and logistical constraints. They pointed out that several of Lumba’s children living abroad are currently preparing for major academic examinations, making it impossible for them to travel home in December. They added that autopsy and investigative processes remain active in both Ghana and Germany due to conflicting accounts surrounding the musician’s death, making any rush to bury him inappropriate.
The statement also raised concerns about why Dadesoabahene seems to be cooperating with the dissolved committee despite acknowledging that the Abusuapanyin secretly recorded and leaked private conversations to bloggers. The family noted that key resolutions from the 3tamkɛse mediation, such as dissolving the old committee, continuing investigations, and preventing unilateral decisions, have been disregarded.
They further accused Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu of withdrawing GHS 200,000 from Cal Bank even after receiving a court directive limiting his authority over financial activities. Unauthorized public statements and billboards, they said, continue to undermine the process and breach the family’s trust.
The family is urging traditional leaders, the media, and the public to ignore any unapproved announcements and support efforts to ensure a dignified, orderly, and truthful process that reflects the legacy of the beloved music legend.
