Veteran broadcaster Kwame Adinkra has revealed plans to formally engage President John Dramani Mahama over a new proposal linked to the funeral of highlife musician Daddy Lumba, several weeks after the singer was laid to rest.
Adinkra shared the development while speaking at a public gathering in a video Firstnewsroom.com came across. He said the proposal seeks approval for a second funeral ceremony to properly honour the late musician, whose birth name was Charles Kwadwo Fosu.
He explained that the idea is driven by the need to promote reconciliation within Daddy Lumba’s family, particularly among his wives. According to Adinkra, the proposed ceremony would only go ahead if all the women recognized as the singer’s spouses agree to participate.
He noted that lingering tensions have continued to surround the burial, largely because some close relatives were absent when the funeral was held in Kumasi. Among them was Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, who stayed away along with other family members.
Prior to the burial, the family had been locked in a legal battle over who qualified as the musician’s lawful wife. The dispute was later resolved in court, which ruled that both women were legally married to the late singer.
The funeral itself nearly failed to take place after a court action demanded that petitioners pay GH¢2 million to Abusuapayin Kofi Owusu before proceedings could continue. When the amount was not settled, the court eventually cleared the way for the funeral to go ahead on December 13.
