Adenta Circuit Court Remands Man Over TikTok Claim of Plot Against President Mahama

The Adenta Circuit Court has ordered the continued detention of a 30-year-old laundry attendant accused of circulating unverified claims that authorities say could trigger public fear and unrest.

The suspect, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is facing allegations of publishing false information after posting a video on TikTok that suggested a plot to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama. The video was shared on his account, @breakingnewsghana.

Prosecutors told the court that the video alleged two military officers were behind the supposed plan. Razzaq specifically mentioned Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the individuals involved.

The court declined to take his plea and directed that he remain in police custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for February 9, 2026.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo is leading the prosecution on behalf of the state, with the Ghana Police Service named as the complainant.

According to the prosecution, the video was uploaded on January 20, 2026. Razzaq was arrested a day later at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region following investigations into the claims made in the footage.

In a caution statement presented to the court, Razzaq acknowledged recording and publishing the video but denied having any personal knowledge of the officers he named. He told investigators that he had never met them and did not know them in any capacity.

He further explained that he acted after he had “chanced upon a post on social media” that made similar allegations, which he said influenced his decision to publish the video.

Investigators, however, reportedly told the court that Razzaq was unable to identify or direct them to the original source of the social media post he cited.
