Court Reportedly Gives Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu Legal Green Light to Challenge Second Funeral Plans for Daddy Lumba

A fresh legal tussle is emerging over plans to organise another memorial in honour of late Highlife musician Daddy Lumba, after his family obtained clearance from the Accra High Court to initiate steps to block the event.

The court’s decision empowers the family, led by Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, to begin formal proceedings seeking an injunction against what has been described as a planned “second funeral.” The proposed programme is being arranged by Papa Shee alongside Akosua Serwaa and other collaborators.

In an interview granted to GhanaWeb reporter Isaac Dadzie on February 13, 2026, Dominic Kwadwo Osei, a lawyer with Baba Jamal & Associates, confirmed that the judiciary has authorised the family to proceed with filing the injunction application.

According to him, preparations are underway to submit the required legal documents within the coming week.

“The court granted us leave to file the necessary processes for an application for an injunction… There is an intent to file an application for an injunction. The reasons will be fully itemised in our application… next week,” he said.

The legal dispute stems from Papa Shee’s earlier announcement of a two-day Celebration of Life event slated for March 28 and 29 to honour the memory of the revered musician.

The announcement has stirred controversy because the musician’s official funeral, organised by the family head, was already held on December 13, 2025.

Despite expressing confidence in their legal position, the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the matter now rests entirely in the hands of the court.

“We will do everything in our power as lawyers to convince the court, but the final decision to grant or not to grant the injunction lies with the court,” Dominic Kwadwo Osei stated.
