“It’s Selfishness, Not Spirits” – Nii Saka Brown Speaks Candidly on Why Men Cheat

Veteran Ghanaian actor Nii Saka Brown says infidelity in marriage has little to do with spiritual forces and everything to do with personal choices, discipline and self-control.

During a discussion with Empress Gifty on UTV’s cooking show, the actor opened up about his 26-year marriage, candidly sharing his past mistakes and the lessons that helped strengthen his relationship with his wife.

Reflecting on why some married men stray, Nii Saka Brown dismissed common justifications and pointed to selfishness as the root cause.

“I’ve been married for twenty-six years. If I’m asked why men cheat, I would say it’s selfishness. Nothing more, nothing less, because we have women at home,” he said.

The actor argued that attributing infidelity to spiritual influences only allows people to avoid accountability for their actions.

“It’s not even spiritual because when you bring in the spirituality, the person would get to justify whatever he’s doing and go scot-free. It’s not the devil that’s making us cheat; it’s our bad behaviour,” he stated.

Drawing from his own experience, Nii Saka Brown acknowledged that he had once been unfaithful but eventually recognised the damage such behaviour could cause.

“It took me a lot of time to realise that cheating isn’t right, so I have to stop. I realised it’s a lack of discipline, so I would have to set the rules straight and be with my wife only,” he divulged.

He revealed that rebuilding trust required a deliberate commitment to honesty and openness with his spouse.

“I once told my wife that I don’t see myself cheating on her again. I’ve cheated on her before, but I didn’t see myself being naked with another woman anymore. It’s a decision I took myself, so I’m open to my wife,” he noted.

According to the actor, that transparency extends to every aspect of his personal life, including access to his phone.

“I don’t put a password on my phone, and my wife could go through it anytime she wants. Even when I’m home on weekends, I sometimes don’t pick up my phone at all,” he disclosed.

Over time, he said, his consistency helped restore confidence in the relationship.

“There was nothing to hide. Eventually, my wife trusted me and stopped going through my phone.”
