Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah Granted GH¢10m Bail Over EOCO Charges

Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah

The Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been granted GH¢10 million bail with two sureties after pleading not guilty to three charges filed against him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The court granted bail after prosecutors led by Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai presented the case against the legislator.

The two sureties are the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho and the Member of Parliament for Effia.

Baffour Awuah reportedly denied all the charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime, dissipation of public funds and intentionally causing financial loss to the state.

He also pleaded not guilty to a money laundering charge linked to an alleged GH¢1 million transfer to the then Managing Director of SIC Life in 2024.

The prosecution team includes Senior State Attorney Nana Ama Prempeh, alongside EOCO officers Leo Anthony Asiamah, Emmanuel Dzakata and Rabiatu Abdulai. They are expected to assist the state in presenting its case.

The charges stem from an EOCO investigation into financial transactions allegedly involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.

Baffour Awuah has previously rejected the allegations through his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, who maintained that the MP’s involvement in the matter was connected to legitimate legal work he carried out for SIC Life.

The latest court proceedings came after Baffour Awuah surrendered himself to EOCO on October 1, following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest by an Accra High Court.

EOCO subsequently confirmed his surrender and said he was cooperating with investigators.
