Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has broken his silence after a decisive showing in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries, offering heartfelt appreciation to the campaign machinery that powered his run.
Addressing supporters at his campaign’s collation centre on Saturday, January 31, 2026, ahead of the Electoral Commission’s formal announcement, Dr Bawumia pointed to teamwork as the defining factor behind his strong performance.
“You’re only as good as your team in these matters. And I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team,” he stated.
He singled out his national campaign coordinators and broader campaign structure, noting that their collective effort made the difference throughout the contest.
“The campaign team, in general, everybody has contributed so much, and I cannot really thank everybody individually at the moment, but I will have time to thank everybody individually,” he said.
Dr Bawumia also reserved glowing praise for members of parliament who openly supported his bid, describing their commitment as exceptional.
“The MPs, I must say, who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They’ve really supported, and they’ve delivered what they promised to do. I want to thank all the members of parliament who supported me,” Dr Bawumia noted.
Beyond his immediate campaign circle, he acknowledged the role played by party executives who supervised the internal election, as well as the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media, commending them for contributing to an orderly and credible process.
His comments came as provisional results from polling centres nationwide showed him comfortably ahead of his challengers, including businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
More than 211,000 delegates voted across over 300 polling centres in what proved to be a tightly fought race for the party’s presidential ticket.
The Electoral Commission is expected to conclude collation and formally announce the final results, a step widely anticipated to confirm Dr Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s next flag bearer.
