The Musicians Union of Ghana has begun mobilising both state and internal support to ensure gospel veteran Yaw Sarpong is laid to rest with dignity befitting his contribution to the industry.

Speaking during his one-week memorial held on February 19, 2026, union representatives disclosed that engagements with government officials are already in motion. They noted that immediately after confirmation of his passing, the leadership set out to formally notify key authorities and seek assistance.

“When our brother passed away, we did a lot of rounds. We went to the government to inform them about the sad news,” the representative said.

According to the union, that outreach marked the beginning of a coordinated effort aimed at securing national recognition for the late musician’s legacy. Plans include seeking audience at the seat of government to explore possible support.

“We then planned to go to Flagstaff House to have a conversation with the chief of staff and the president so that whatever help they have to offer for our brother Yaw Sarpong’s funeral would be memorable.”

Beyond consultations with state officials, MUSIGA has also extended immediate support to the grieving family. The union announced a financial contribution as part of its first phase of assistance toward funeral preparations.

“We are donating GH¢500 to the family towards the funeral expenses. When it’s time for the funeral, MUSIGA, we will always be here to support and make sure our brother gets a befitting burial,” he further stated.
