Ga Mantse Discharged After Oti Highway Crash as Mahama Visits at UGMC

Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II

Relief has swept through the Ga State after the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, left the University of Ghana Medical Centre following treatment for injuries sustained in a road crash earlier this week.

The monarch’s discharge came not long after President John Dramani Mahama paid him a visit at the hospital. During the visit, the President enquired about his condition and offered his personal well wishes.

The accident reportedly occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, along the Pai-Katanga stretch of the Oti highway in the Oti Region. Palace sources said the King was travelling back to Accra from what they described as an urgent assignment when the incident happened.

Information from the Office of the Ga Mantse indicates that the crash took place as the royal convoy was making its return journey from the Northern Region. The trip had followed an invitation from the Ya Naa, aimed at reinforcing traditional solidarity and strengthening relations between the Ga and Dagbon kingdoms.

Although the collision was described as serious, no lives were lost. Officers from the Ghana Police Service, together with members of the royal household, provided immediate assistance at the scene before arrangements were made to transport the King and his entourage to Accra for further care.

At the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the Ga Mantse and his aides underwent comprehensive medical evaluations to determine the nature and extent of their injuries.

In a statement signed by the Chief of Protocol and Communications, Amb. Sir S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, the palace confirmed that His Royal Majesty’s recovery had been swift and satisfactory.

The Ga Mantse has since instructed his office to convey heartfelt appreciation to the emergency responders and the medical personnel who attended to him. He also thanked the public for the prayers and goodwill messages that followed news of the accident.
