Baba Sadiq Appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria

Baba Sadiq

Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Nigeria is set for a transition following President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The nomination follows the withdrawal of Baba Jamal from the post. He opted to return to frontline politics to contest the Ayawaso East by-election after the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Nasser Mahama Toure.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the new appointment in a statement issued on Sunday, March 1. The development also drew praise from the Foreign Affairs Minister, who publicly welcomed the decision.

“Congratulations, Baba Sadiq on your well-deserved appointment by President Mahama as High Commissioner designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I have no doubt you will hold aloft Ghana’s flag and make the youth of our continent proud,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said on X on March 1, 2026.

Baba Sadiq previously stood as the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central in the 2024 general election. He is expected to assume responsibility for steering Ghana’s diplomatic engagement in Abuja, with a focus on strengthening economic collaboration and reinforcing ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
