Ghanaian actress and socialist Efia Odo has voiced her frustration over the devastating flooding that hit parts of Accra, raising concerns about why many residents continued moving through dangerous conditions instead of staying out of harm’s way.
In a social media post, the actress reflected on the reality faced by many Ghanaians who had to leave their homes despite the heavy downpour, highlighting the difficult choices people often make in pursuit of their livelihoods.
“It blows my mind that it rained for hours, yet so many people still felt they had no choice but to leave their homes just to make a living. We’ve been conditioned to believe that making money comes before our own safety, even when the consequences can be deadly. In many ways, we’re subconsciously becoming the walking dead!!!” she wrote.
Efia Odo argued that the situation requires more than public debate, urging leaders to move beyond political differences and focus on tackling the country’s persistent flooding challenges.
“Politics must be put aside and urgent action must be taken to address these recurring floods. Year after year, lives are lost, homes, properties, and businesses are damaged!” she stressed.
Her comments come as public figures continue to react to the impact of the latest floods, which left several communities dealing with destruction and disruption. Many have joined calls for a shift from short-term responses toward long-term measures that can prevent repeated disasters.
“Ghanaians deserve infrastructure and long-term solutions that protect lives, not just promises after every disaster,” Efia Odo further stated.
