Stonebwoy has joined calls for stronger action after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across parts of Greater Accra on June 29, 2026, leaving a trail of destruction and affecting thousands of residents.
The award-winning musician shared a message on his X page, expressing solidarity with families and communities caught up in the disaster while urging both citizens and government authorities to take practical steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Seeing the flood reports across the capital. My heart is with every family and community affected,” he wrote.
According to the Bhim Nation president, addressing Accra’s recurring flooding problem requires collective responsibility. He encouraged residents to refrain from dumping refuse into drainage systems, avoid constructing buildings in waterways, and ensure homes have proper drainage channels to improve water flow.
He also called on government agencies to move swiftly to clear silted drains and upgrade major drainage infrastructure where necessary so it can better handle the growing volume of stormwater.
“Beyond today, we all have a role to play — by not dumping refuse in drainage systems, avoiding building structures in waterways, and ensuring that households construct proper drainage systems to help ease water flow.
“I also plead with the authorities to urgently desilt and, where needed, widen and reconstruct major drainage channels across the capital to cope with increasing water volumes. Please stay safe, look out for one another, and follow all safety advisories from NADMO and the relevant authorities,” he wrote.
His comments come after hours of intense rainfall on June 29, 2026, caused widespread flooding across Accra, submerging several communities, rendering major roads impassable, and leaving many commuters stranded.
The flooding also claimed lives, destroyed property in several affected areas, and severely disrupted traffic across large sections of the capital, once again highlighting the city’s long-standing drainage challenges.
Seeing the flood reports across the Capital. My heart is with every family and community affected. 🙏🇬🇭
