Actress Joselyn Dumas has revealed that she was recently targeted in a mobile money scam that left her account completely drained.
In a video shared on her social media on March 17, 2026, Joselyn recounted the ordeal, explaining how a routine attempt to upgrade her DStv Ghana subscription turned into a financial nightmare.
She said the scam began when she reached out to someone she believed was a DStv Ghana representative. “The individual appeared polite and convincing during the conversation and later sent me a link, asking me to enter my decoder details and PIN,” she explained.
Joselyn admitted that she felt a twinge of doubt but was reassured by the person, who claimed there were technical issues that required them to finish the process on their side. The fraudster sent another link and pressured her to input her mobile money code within a very short timeframe, walking her through each step.
Shortly afterward, her MTN Ghana mobile money wallet was emptied. The scam escalated further when the person used her PIN and phone number to access her mobile money app, enrolling her in XtraCash—a short-term loan service—then taking out a loan in her name and withdrawing the funds.
“As soon as I said to him that was my number, I felt a vibration on my phone. All my money was emptied. In the process of talking to me as well, because he had my PIN and my number, he was able to get into my MoMo app, and he signed me up for something called XtraPay. I deposited money to send to somebody, and that money was also used to pay the loan,” Joselyn recounted.
Even after regaining access to her account and depositing additional funds, she said MTN Ghana deducted money to cover the fraudulent loan.
Joselyn used her experience as a cautionary tale, urging the public to guard their mobile money PINs and remain vigilant against suspicious messages or calls. She also appealed to DStv Ghana to take action, emphasizing the importance of stronger safeguards to prevent similar scams.
Beware of the numbers you pick online or websites as well because majority of them are fraudsters!!!!
