Fameye Argues His Consistency Merits TGMA Artiste of the Year Nomination

Fameye

Fameye is not hiding his frustration with this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominations, saying the recognition he received does not match the work he has put in over the past year.

During a recent interview on Max TV, the Highlife singer acknowledged that he has no control over how awards are decided, but maintained that his output deserved a stronger presence in some of the scheme’s biggest categories.

“If it were up to me, I would have taken the awards with speed. The awards belong to an organisation and people have to vote. They’re just adding up some energies, but I know I deserve to win some categories,” he said.

He pointed to his previous wins as evidence that his contributions to the industry have already been validated, arguing that those honours did not come by chance.

“If I don’t deserve to get an award, I wouldn’t have won one last year,” he stated.

Fameye said his disappointment deepened when the full list of nominees was released, especially after he realised he had missed out on categories he considers central to his craft. He mentioned Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Record of the Year as areas where he expected to see his name.

“I feel the nominations are small for me. I was sad when I saw the TGMA nominations. I wish I were in the Songwriter of the Year category, Artiste of the Year, and Record of the Year,” he shared.

While he suggested that Popular Song of the Year is not a category he prioritises, he admitted that being included would still have been appreciated.

“Popular song of the Year that I don’t really pay attention to, but if they should nominate me there, it wouldn’t have been bad,” he said.

Beyond awards, the singer leaned on his relationship with fans as a measure of his relevance. According to him, the reception he gets on stage, where crowds sing along word for word, tells a story that nominations alone may not fully capture.

“I have a lot of songs that people can actually sing. Whenever I’m performing those songs, the response I get from the audience is mostly more than expected. That’s when some people realised I’m underrated,” he explained.

He also questioned why his consistency over the years has not translated into a nomination for Artiste of the Year, despite regularly delivering songs that resonate with listeners.

“I’ve been very consistent with releasing hit songs every year, but they’ve never nominated me in the Artiste of the Year category,” Fameye stressed.
