Lilwin Claims His Collaboration Gave Guru His Biggest Break

Kwadwo Nkansah, well known as Lilwin, is revisiting one of his most talked-about collaborations and making a bold claim about its place in Guru’s catalogue.

In an interview with ZionFelix, the actor-turned-musician pointed to “Alkayida” as a defining moment for the Hiplife star, arguing that the track remains unmatched in its reach and staying power. He noted that the song still sparks excitement whenever it comes on, long after its release.

While he recognised “Lapaz Toyota” as a major success in Guru’s career, Lilwin maintained that it falls short of what “Alkayida” achieved in terms of overall impact.

“When it comes to the biggest song so far, I would say it’s the one Guru did with me, Go Lilwin. That song really stood out and it is the biggest song to help Guru in his career. Even though Lapaz Toyota is also a big record, Go Lilwin still commands attention anytime it comes on. In my view, it’s even hotter than all his other songs,” he said.

Lilwin went on to recount what happened after the success of that collaboration, revealing that Guru later brought him back into the studio for another track titled “Tie Tie Break.” According to him, the initial version featured his then-manager, Zack, but something changed before the song was officially released.

He admitted he never got clarity on why Zack’s contribution did not make the final cut, explaining that he and Guru were not in regular contact at the time.

“I don’t know why Zack was left out of the final version of the song. I also didn’t really have any direct relationship or conversations with Guru. After we recorded together, I went my own way. So I wouldn’t even know how to go back and ask a big artiste like him where the original version we worked on is,” he stated.

He added that their working relationship back then was informal, often ending once a session or performance was done. In fact, he disclosed that he did not charge for appearances alongside Guru during those early collaborations.
