Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of actor Solomon Akiyesi, who passed away in his sleep after a short illness.
According to a report, the news was confirmed by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Mr. Yakub Abubakar, who said the actor’s family provided details surrounding his final hours.
According to him, Akiyesi reportedly complained of chest pain the night before his death. He was later taken to a hospital where doctors diagnosed him with an ulcer and administered treatment before discharging him.
He then returned home, went to bed, and never woke up the next morning.
“His wife tried to wake him around 4 a.m., but he did not respond,” the AGN president said.
The guild described his passing as a painful blow to the film industry, noting that it is standing in solidarity with his family during this difficult time. His body has since been deposited at a morgue in Abuja, where he died.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues across the industry, many of whom remember him as a dynamic performer whose screen presence stood out in every role he played.
Actress Celestina Dovigalle also paid tribute, describing him as energetic and lively, adding that he consistently brought warmth and excitement to film sets.
Akiyesi built a solid career in Nollywood with appearances in productions such as Desperate Ladies, Pretty Liars, Bridge of Contract, Heart of a Saint, Marry Who You Love (2016), Gen Z Wife (2024), and Accidentally Us (2025).
Originally from Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, he began acting in the late 1990s and went on to feature in more than 100 films, establishing himself as both an actor and a producer in the industry.
