A police inspector stationed at the Asuoyeboah Police Station in the Ashanti Region has been taken off duty after allegations linking him to an armed robbery attack on a mobile money vendor in Kumasi.
The officer, identified as Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah, was picked up by the Ashanti Regional Anti-Robbery Unit in what police described as an intelligence-driven operation.
According to a statement issued on Monday, May 11, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, investigators later searched the officer’s homes and reportedly recovered a Bruni Mod. 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and GH¢9,835 in cash.
The police administration confirmed that he has been interdicted as internal disciplinary procedures take effect while investigations into the alleged robbery continue.
Authorities also stated that Inspector Dankwah was hauled before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on May 11, 2026, where he was remanded into police custody.
He is scheduled to return to court on May 29, 2026, as the case progresses.
The case has renewed public unease about occasional misconduct involving security personnel, especially in relation to attacks on mobile money operators, a group that has increasingly become a target for armed robbery in recent years.
Across the country, mobile money vendors have consistently raised alarm over safety concerns, pointing to repeated violent incidents that have, in some cases, led to fatalities and serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the police service says it remains firm on discipline within its ranks, stressing that any officer found engaging in criminal activity will be subjected to the full force of the law.
