Man Gets Four-Year Sentence for Stealing Church Equipment in Hohoe

A routine stop by alert residents in Hohoe has led to the conviction of a 27-year-old man after church equipment reported stolen was discovered in his possession.

The Volta North Regional Police Command confirmed that Mohammed Rafiu has been sentenced for unlawfully entering a church premises and stealing musical instruments belonging to the congregation.

The incident occurred on June 5, 2026, when Rafiu was spotted close to Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack and hurriedly attempting to board a commercial vehicle. His behaviour drew the attention of nearby witnesses, who became suspicious and decided to question him.

After inspecting the sack, they found several items identified as church property, including an amplifier, an equalizer and a mixer machine.

The witnesses subsequently apprehended Rafiu and handed him over to officers at the Hohoe District Police Command for further investigations.

During police questioning, he admitted to the offences.

Rafiu was later arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, where he pleaded guilty to two charges. The court convicted him and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment for unlawful entry and four years for stealing.

The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently.
