Appietus Hints at New NPP Campaign Song for Bawumia

Veteran Ghanaian producer Appietus is once again turning his attention to the political music space, confirming that he is preparing a fresh campaign anthem for the New Patriotic Party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy, the hitmaker suggested that the project is designed with longevity in mind, hinting it could rival some of his most influential works in Ghana’s political music history.

“I’m doing another one for Bawumia. It’s going to be something else; it’s going to be awesome and will stay relevant for a very long time,” he disclosed.

Campaign songs have long been woven into Ghana’s election culture, evolving into a powerful communication tool for political parties. One of the early turning points came in the 2000 elections when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) adopted Cindy Thompson’s Awurade Kasa as part of its campaign drive.

The trend reached a defining moment ahead of the 2008 general elections with the release of Nana Ye Winner, performed by Daddy Lumba and produced by Appietus. The track became a nationwide anthem and is still widely regarded as one of the most iconic political songs in Ghana’s electoral history.

Since that period, both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have regularly invested in campaign music as part of their election strategy, commissioning songs to energise supporters and shape political messaging.

Recalling how Nana Ye Winner came about, Appietus explained during his appearance on Starr 103.5 FM that the beat was initially created without any specific artiste in mind.

“Nana Akomea contacted me and said they needed a massive song for His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, so I should come up with something. I made a beat and played it for him. He then asked who I was currently working with in the studio, and I told him Daddy Lumba. They immediately said they wanted him to sing the song,” Appietus told host Feeling Daddy.

He also revealed that despite the massive success of the record during the Nana Akufo-Addo campaign era, he did not receive financial returns from the project until the later years of Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
