Shatta Wale Rejects Canada Show Over $300K Demand, Says Ghana Mining Communities Pay More

Ghanaian dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale says he walked away from a booking opportunity in Canada after promoters refused to meet his conditions, which included a $300,000 fee and a private jet.

The musician argues that his decision was not driven by ego, but by a firm understanding of his market value. He contrasted the rejected offer with what he claims he can easily command back home in Ghana, particularly from wealthier local communities.

Shatta Wale shared the remarks during a conversation with UK-based Nigerian media figure Adesope Olajide, where he explained that he set his terms before the Canadian engagement fell through.

“Recently, I got some Canadian promoters wanting me to come. And I said if they want me to come, they should get me a jet and pay me $300,000, and they were like, ‘Who will pay that amount?'”

He insisted that his earning power within Ghanaian circles, especially in mining communities, is far higher than what was offered abroad.

“But a mining community in Ghana will pay me $500,000 hands down and rent a jet for me to come. And these are people that love Shatta Wale; they are not even promoters,” he said.

Beyond the financial disagreement, he also pointed to image and perception as key reasons he avoids discounted international shows. According to him, performing abroad under lower rates could affect how fans perceive his status.

“I don’t want to come to London for people to run me cheap. I don’t want my fans to see me in London and see me on a bus and be like, ‘I thought you were a king? Why are you on a bus?'” he stated.

Still, he made it clear that he is open to global collaborations, provided the compensation reflects his profile and influence. He added that his brand sits at a level where he can interact with top political figures.

“I am not going to charge you the money I get paid in Ghana. But at least pay me $50,000, because when you put my picture on a flyer, know that I’m the kind of person the president calls to ask how we can build this industry,” Shatta Wale further stated.
