A police chief inspector in the Ashanti Region has been placed under investigation following allegations that he owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB in Kumasi, which were allegedly rented out to commercial sex workers.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the probe in a statement issued on Friday, July 10, saying it had taken note of the allegations and would provide further updates as the matter progresses.
The investigation was triggered by claims made by Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who alleged that some police officers were behind the ownership of illegal structures at Asafo that had reportedly become centres for prostitution and the sale of illicit drugs.
Mr Boadi made the claims after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) carried out a demolition exercise on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building.
According to the MCE, some of the wooden structures pulled down during the exercise were allegedly linked to police officers and had been turned into locations for unlawful activities.
The allegations have prompted the police administration to launch investigations into the conduct of the officer involved, with the command assuring the public that any further information on the case would be communicated.
The KMA has defended the demolition exercise, explaining that it is part of a broader campaign to remove unauthorised developments obstructing waterways and improve access for the cleaning and desilting of major drains as Ghana prepares for the rainy season.
