Accra–Kumasi Highway Crash Claims Woman’s Life, Injures 14

A woman has died and 14 others were injured after a MAN truck collided with a Toyota Hiace on the Accra–Kumasi highway near Bunso.

A woman has died and 14 other people sustained injuries after a MAN Diesel truck and a Toyota Hiace collided near Paradise Restaurant on the Accra–Kumasi highway.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after the truck reportedly crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into the Hiace.

The Bunso Fire Station received a distress call at about 7:30 p.m. and dispatched a six-member team to the scene. Firefighters arrived at approximately 7:46 p.m. and found both vehicles badly damaged from the impact.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to responders, the MAN truck, registered AS 4765-11, was attempting to make way for a Toyota Vitz that was allegedly overtaking improperly.

The manoeuvre reportedly caused the truck to veer into the opposite lane, where it struck the side of the Toyota Hiace, which had registration number ER 655-25.

The crash left the front section of the MAN truck partially damaged, while the Hiace suffered extensive damage along its side.

Firefighters attended to the injured victims and assisted in retrieving personal belongings from the wrecked vehicles.

One female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Fourteen other occupants were injured and received assistance from the emergency crew.

The exact cause of the crash remains unclear, and investigations are expected to establish the sequence of events that led to the collision.

After clearing the affected section of the highway and completing emergency operations, the fire crew left the scene at about 8:46 p.m.
