Ghanaian artiste Stonebwoy has urged single people to look beyond the usual places when searching for love, saying a future partner could enter their lives through the most unexpected encounters.
The Bhim Nation boss believes people often place unnecessary limits on where they expect to meet a potential husband or wife. Churches, workplaces and other familiar settings may be common meeting points, but he said they are far from the only places where meaningful relationships can begin.
Speaking in a recent interview, Stonebwoy pointed to social media, weddings, funerals and ordinary social gatherings as places where strangers can connect and form relationships.
He recalled how people who arrived at such events without knowing one another could leave having exchanged phone numbers and built new connections.
“People took numbers at funerals, and they linked up, and people took numbers at weddings. Everywhere is possible; in your DMs is possible. Don’t write that off. You don’t know where your husband can be,” he said.
Stonebwoy said the same principle applies to everyday interactions, arguing that circumstances can sometimes bring people together when they least expect it.
He illustrated his point with an experience during a flight. According to the musician, passengers who had initially kept to themselves quickly became more sociable when the aircraft encountered turbulence.
“I was on a flight. The turbulence was turbulencing, everybody was nice instantly, but before the flight everyone was forming. Something brings people together,” he recounted.
“Don’t be singling out the events where you think it’s supposed to be that you find your man or you find your woman,” he advised.
He said some people have narrowed their expectations so much that they dismiss potential partners simply because they did not meet them in an idealised setting.
“Some people have streamlined it to, if it doesn’t meet me in a church or at the bank, I don’t like it,” he said. “But your husband came to the funeral and you frown on him.”
The advice comes from someone who has spent years building a marriage of his own. Stonebwoy has been with Dr Louisa Ansong for about 12 years, and the couple have two children.
The musician said their relationship has remained strong partly because their bond extends beyond romance. He described his wife as his best friend and stressed that friendship should form an important part of any lasting relationship.
“You need to actually make a best friend for you,” Stonebwoy said.
He explained that compatibility should not be judged solely by physical attraction. A lasting relationship, in his view, requires deeper emotional and spiritual connection between two people.
Stonebwoy and Dr Louisa are approaching their 10th wedding anniversary, marking another milestone in a relationship that began years before they exchanged vows.
