Ghanaian artiste Showboy has taken a rare pause from his typically brash online persona to share a personal and sobering reflection on his past, revealing how youthful missteps and external pressures derailed his dreams while living in the United States.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), the artiste, born Sam Kwabena Safo, looked back on his struggles during his time abroad, revealing he once juggled menial jobs while attending college, only to lose focus under the weight of peer influence.
“I was a security guard in America and also worked at the coffee shop!!! Something they will never tell u,” he wrote. “Was in college… And peer pressure messed my dream n all my opportunities up… So I advise u. Do better n be the best version of ur self… I have regretted a lot.”
The statement, raw and stripped of bravado, offered fans a rare glimpse into Showboy’s journey beyond the stage, one marked by ambition, distraction, and the difficult consequences of youthful choices. It resonated with many followers as both a confession and a cautionary tale, emphasising the human side of a figure often known more for controversy than vulnerability.
Showboy’s rise in Ghana’s music scene was once meteoric. As a co-founder of AMG Business and an affiliate of Criss Waddle, he cultivated a reputation for flamboyance and lyrical aggression. However, his career was significantly interrupted in 2019 when he was convicted in the United States for stabbing an associate during a fight, an incident that led to a prison sentence and forced hiatus from music.
