KNUST SHS Student in Viral Video Clarifies Age as 19 Amid Ongoing Probe

KNUST

A female student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School, caught in a viral video with an assistant headmaster, has spoken publicly to set the record straight about her age.

She reportedly told Adom News reporter Kwadwo Obeng Mireku that she is 19 years old and not 13, as widely claimed on social media.

“Just tell them I am 19 years old; I was born on July 21, 2006. I am not 13 years old,” she said.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection had earlier issued a statement asserting that the girl was 13 and called for the arrest of the assistant headmaster involved.

Following the circulation of the video, the Ghana Education Service (GES) announced on September 29, 2025, that Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the assistant headmaster, had been removed from the school. He has also been barred from entering the premises while investigations continue.

The GES said the swift decision was taken to protect students’ welfare and preserve the integrity of the teaching profession.

In its statement, the Service assured the public that disciplinary measures would follow due process and stressed that misconduct of any kind would not be tolerated.

“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity and well-being of students,” it noted.

The Service further emphasized that the credibility of schools must be safeguarded, and any breaches of conduct will be dealt with firmly.
