Ghana to Hold State Funeral for Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on November 28

The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra, under the auspices of President John Mahama.

In a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidency highlighted that the state funeral is in recognition of Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings’ immense contributions to the advancement of women’s and children’s rights in Ghana, as well as her broader role in national development.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76. Her death triggered a wave of mourning across the nation, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, civil society organizations, and citizens who remembered her as a tireless advocate for women’s empowerment and a trailblazer in public service.

In the wake of her passing, Parliament suspended its proceedings to honor her memory, while her family requested privacy as they grieved.

In a separate statement shared via the page of her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, the family expressed deep gratitude to the public for their support:

“The Agyeman-Rawlings and allied families express their profound gratitude to the people of Ghana and friends around the world for the overwhelming outpouring of love and sympathy following the sudden passing of Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
