Otto Addo’s second spell with the Black Stars has been cut short, with the Ghana Football Association confirming his dismissal as head coach.
The decision was made public in a statement released by the association’s communications team on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure.
In the statement, the FA acknowledged his contribution before announcing the immediate separation.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” parts of the statement read.
It added, “The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”
Addo’s exit follows a string of disappointing results, with the latest setback being a 2-1 loss to Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026. That result came on the back of a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria just days earlier on March 27.
His return to the role began on March 15, 2024, when he was reappointed by the GFA after previously handling the team in an interim capacity. He had initially stepped in ahead of Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-off clashes against Nigeria.
After guiding the team to the tournament, he stepped down in the aftermath of a difficult World Cup campaign, only to be brought back two years later in what has now proven to be a short-lived second stint.
