Debate around the Artiste of the Year race at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards has taken a fresh turn after Black Sherif weighed in on the conversation, particularly over the limited mention of Wendy Shay in discussions about top contenders.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, which was shared on Instagram on April 4, 2026, the musician voiced concern that Wendy Shay’s contribution and visibility in 2025 are not being given enough attention in the current awards discourse.

“I don’t like how people are not mentioning Wendy Shay’s name for Artiste of the Year,” he said. “I don’t really like the division, but if I’m being honest and looking at things as they are, I don’t like how she’s being overlooked. I feel she is eligible this year as well.”

His remarks have added momentum to an already active debate within the music space, where fans and industry observers continue to argue over who stands out most for the top prize this year.

Throughout 2025, Wendy Shay remained consistently present in the music scene, delivering a steady run of releases, high-profile collaborations, and performances on major stages.

Supporters pointing to her case argue that her sustained output, strong streaming performance, and active fan engagement keep her firmly in contention, even though her name has not featured prominently in many mainstream predictions for the award.
