Gospel musician and police officer Kofi Sarpong has risen another step in the Ghana Police Service, earning promotion from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
The new rank was conferred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, when Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno decorated Kofi Sarpong alongside 21 other newly promoted officers at the Ghana Police Headquarters.
The promotion adds another notable achievement to Kofi Sarpong’s career, which has seen him build a reputation both within the Police Service and Ghana’s gospel music scene.
His journey in the Police Service began after he completed Berekum Senior High School, reportedly joining the service as a Constable. From there, he steadily worked his way through the ranks, serving as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police and Chief Superintendent before attaining the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Kofi Sarpong was promoted to ACP in 2022, an elevation he described at the time as a blessing and the start of a new chapter in his professional journey.
Four years later, that journey has taken another significant turn with his promotion to DCOP.
While his advancement in the Police Service has been gradual, Kofi Sarpong has simultaneously maintained a successful career in gospel music. His ability to serve as a police officer while establishing himself as a recognised gospel musician has made his career particularly distinctive.
