Kofi Owusu Peprah Reveals Why He Left BNI for Gospel Music

Ghanaian gospel musician, Kofi Owusu Peprah, has opened up about the life-altering decision he made four years ago to leave behind a career in intelligence in order to embrace his calling in music.

In a revealing interview on Hitz FM, Owusu Peprah shared how his work with the Bureau of National Investigations, now known as the National Intelligence Bureau, clashed with his growing presence as a gospel artist, forcing him to choose one path.

“I have left the BNI for about four years. It is in the studio that I received my query letter. Yes, in this house. I came for an interview. It’s a broken record but this is the first time I am being explicit about it,” he recounted, noting that the pivotal moment occurred while he was doing an interview in a recording studio.

The message was clear: he could either continue working in intelligence or pursue his music career, but not both. Faced with that ultimatum, he chose to resign.

As he explained, the strict ethical standards of his role at the BNI prohibited agents from public exposure, which made his musical ambitions increasingly untenable.

“I was given the opportunity to resign or quit everything relating to music, pull down all my YouTube stuff, you know. Those are the ethics: so I am saying this so that if you are in it and you wanna do music you know what you are getting yourself into,” he said.

Since stepping away from state service, Owusu Peprah has carved out a name in Ghana’s gospel scene with uplifting songs such as Big God, Matwen, and Amen. His blend of worship and personal testimony has earned him both critical and spiritual recognition.

Now fully immersed in his music ministry, Kofi Owusu Peprah is preparing to headline a gospel concert on August 17, 2025, at Cedar Mountain Chapel in Accra.
