Court Cuts Nana Agradaa’s 15-Year Jail Term to 12 Months

The Amasaman High Court has trimmed the prison term handed to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa, cutting her sentence from 15 years to 12 calendar months after finding the original punishment unduly severe.

While upholding her conviction, the court exercised its authority to review the penalty imposed by the trial court. Judges concluded that although the offences were serious and required custodial punishment, the earlier sentence involving 15 years of hard labour exceeded what was reasonable under the circumstances.

The court reportedly ruled that the revised term should be calculated from July 3, 2025, which was the date of her conviction. This means Nana Agradaa is expected to spend a total of one year behind bars.

In explaining the decision, the court maintained that punishment remained necessary but emphasised the need for proportionality. It determined that the previous sentence did not appropriately match the nature of the offences, making a reduction justified.

Nana Agradaa, widely known for her transition from fetish priestess to Christian evangelist, was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.

The conviction stemmed from a televised broadcast in 2022 in which she claimed to possess supernatural abilities that could multiply money. Investigations revealed that several people handed over substantial amounts of cash after believing the promises of miraculous financial gains, which never materialised.
