Angel Asiamah has welcomed a significant turn in his wife’s legal battle after the Amasaman High Court cut down the prison term handed to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
Outside the courtroom moments after the ruling, Mr. Asiamah could not hide his joy, telling journalists the decision brought immense relief to his family.
“I am the happiest man on earth,” he said in Twi in a video shared by Citinews.
The High Court revised Nana Agradaa’s sentence to 12 calendar months, setting aside the 15-year jail term with hard labour imposed by the trial court, which it described as harsh and excessive.
While the court maintained her conviction, it exercised its discretion to alter the punishment, concluding that the original sentence was disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.
The reduced sentence is to run from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, meaning the former fetish priestess will serve a total of one year in prison.
In explaining its decision, the court acknowledged that the offence required punishment but stressed that justice also demanded moderation, leading to a downward adjustment of the custodial term.
Nana Agradaa’s case has attracted sustained public attention, fueled by her high-profile transition from traditional priesthood to evangelical ministry and her continued presence in the public eye.
With the latest ruling, the High Court has left her conviction untouched but significantly shortened the time she is required to spend behind bars.
