Afua Asantewaa, Ghanaian socialite and former Guinness World Record singathon contender, has found herself at the centre of an online debate after speaking publicly about difficulties in her marriage.
The discussion gained traction after a viral TikTok video in which she opened up about what she says contributed to her separation from her husband.
She pointed to what she described as a lack of support and protection from her partner, who is also in the media space.
Afua said her husband, a journalist with more than three decades of experience, did not publicly stand up for her when she faced heavy criticism on social media.
“My partner is a journalist with over 30 years of experience, yet he has never come out to defend me. But during the sing-a-thon, he was able to stand in front of the camera and say he is proud of his wife… I don’t have anybody to talk to, but sometimes you just have to speak the truth,” she said.
Her remarks have since triggered widespread reactions online. While some users have questioned her decision to air private matters publicly, others have urged her to be more restrained in sharing personal relationship issues on social media.
