Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central and widely known as A Plus, has made his political stance clear as attention gradually shifts toward Ghana’s 2028 presidential race. He says his choice of who to support will depend entirely on the direction of former President John Dramani Mahama.
In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar, A Plus addressed questions about who he envisions as a possible successor to President Mahama. He maintained that he would not independently pick a candidate outside Mahama’s preference.
“If I ever have to support anybody to become the next president of Ghana after John Mahama, it has to be that I support this person because John Mahama told me that we should support this person,” he said.
He reinforced the point that his political loyalty would follow Mahama’s lead, insisting that his backing would only go to a candidate endorsed by the former president.
“Whoever I support for president of Ghana is because President Mahama has told me that all of us should support this person. The only person that I will support is who he says we should support,” he stressed, noting that his allegiance is tied directly to Mahama’s direction.
A Plus further explained his reasoning, citing Mahama’s experience and insight into the political terrain as key factors behind his position.
“I’m saying if I ever support somebody, it should be somebody Mahama says we should support because he knows his people. He knows who is going to continue the good work that he’s doing,” he added.
