At his ‘OK@50’ celebration, veteran Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame shifted attention from the milestone itself to a revelation about one of his closest industry connections, crediting Kwabena Kwabena for playing unpublicised roles in some of his most popular songs.
“Do you know that this guy sang “wakoyɛ abo musuo, wakoyɛ abo musuo wadi kala fɛfɛ bi akyi, wanko ne maame ayie?” he said.
“Do you also know that Kwabena Kwabena was the one who sang the chorus for my song Faithful? He also played the keyboard for Small Small.”
The disclosure sparked applause from the audience, prompting Okyeame Kwame to pause and openly acknowledge their bond.
“Kwabena, I love you very much,” he added.
Kwabena Kwabena, visibly moved by the moment, responded with equal admiration, reflecting on Okyeame Kwame’s influence in the industry.
He pointed to ‘Woara’, a song by Okyeame Kwame featuring Raquel, as a standout record in his view.
“I love you too, my brother. You have done so much for the industry and you’re worth celebrating. But there’s this song that you did, it blows my mind. I wish it was mine,” he said before breaking into a rendition of the track.
Their exchange naturally transitioned into a joint performance of ‘Woara’, with both artistes sharing the stage and drawing strong reactions from guests who witnessed their chemistry firsthand.
The evening also featured live performances of several other hit songs, alongside a tribute segment honouring highlife artiste Daddy Lumba, rounding off the celebration with a nostalgic atmosphere.
