Richie Mensah Reveals How Brutal Music Criticism Left Him In Tears

Richie Mensah

Before Lynx Entertainment became a powerhouse in Ghana’s music scene, its founder, Richie Mensah, was battling doubts about whether he truly belonged in the industry.

The award-winning producer and executive has opened up about a difficult moment from the early stages of his journey, revealing how harsh criticism from an international music professional left him devastated.

Speaking during a podcast interview, Richie recalled his time at Wonder World Records, where some of his songs were played for a visiting industry expert. Instead of praise, the reaction he received was crushing.

“A music expert listened to my songs and said they were not good enough. He even said they should drop me from the label,” he said.

According to Richie, the criticism did not stop at one track. Song after song was dismissed during the listening session, making the experience even more painful for him as an upcoming creative trying to find his footing.

“I went home and cried like a baby,” he revealed.

Despite the emotional setback, Richie said the experience eventually became a turning point in his career. A close friend later encouraged him not to allow the rejection to define him, but rather to use it as fuel to improve and push harder.

That advice, he explained, reshaped his mentality and helped him build resilience in an industry where criticism and pressure are constant.

Years later, Richie Mensah has gone on to establish Lynx Entertainment as one of the most influential music labels in Ghana, nurturing some of the country’s biggest stars.
