Dr Likee has clarified that his appearance on the Telecel Ghana Music Awards red carpet was deliberately used as a promotional tool for his upcoming comedy show scheduled for the O2 Indigo in London.
In a video posted on social media, the Ghanaian comedian addressed the buzz that followed his outfit choice, noting that he fully expected the public reaction even before arriving at the event. He said he was not bothered by the attention it generated.
“I knew Ghanaians would definitely talk, but I wore that outfit to promote my upcoming show,” he said.
He further explained that the choice was not only strategic but also personal, pointing out that his wardrobe preference leans heavily toward casual wear.
“Not just the promotion alone, but I wear shorts a lot. I’m much more comfortable wearing shorts,” he explained.
With debates and criticism circulating online after his red carpet appearance, Dr Likee also urged his fans to avoid turning the situation into hostility directed at critics.
“No one should insult anybody for criticizing me. I’m begging my loyal fans not to go after anyone or fight with anyone.
“We all understand that it’s a game and that’s how it’s played. If they didn’t talk about me for me to trend, my comedy show at O2 wouldn’t get any attention,” he stated.
He added that public criticism is part of the entertainment space, where visibility often depends on constant conversation and scrutiny.
“When people don’t criticize you, you will not go far in life. That’s why it’s called showbiz, so I’m really not bothered about what people were saying about my outfit,” Dr Likee further stated.
