A coordinated cyber-led crackdown by the Ghana Police Service has dismantled a suspected cross-regional vehicle theft network operating across parts of the Eastern Region, following an intelligence-driven operation that combined digital forensics with field deployment.
The operation, spearheaded by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET), resulted in the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of three stolen vehicles, among them an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra and two Hyundai Sonata models. Authorities say the breakthrough underscores a growing shift toward technology-assisted policing in tackling organised car theft.
Investigations were triggered after a vehicle owner reported the theft of an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region on Monday, May 25, 2026. That complaint set off a rapid response sequence within the police service, prompting the immediate activation of CVET.
Rather than depend solely on conventional stop-and-search methods, investigators deployed geolocation tools and cyber-surveillance systems to trace the vehicle’s electronic trail. The signal reportedly led officers to a fortified residence within the Roman Down enclave at Asamankese, also in the Eastern Region.
Given the sensitive nature of the location, CVET operatives worked in close coordination with the local Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Detachment. A joint tactical unit was later assembled and moved in under cover of darkness to contain the premises.
The raid was swift. Officers surrounded the compound before moving in, catching the occupants off guard and securing the suspects without resistance. Inside the property, investigators also discovered two additional stolen vehicles, bringing the total recovered assets to three.
The seven suspects, whom police believe played different roles in the criminal chain, including vehicle tracking, electrical bypass operations, and document falsification for resale purposes, have been identified as:
- Acheampong Otuo Kofi, alias Levels, 28
- Kpachen Ebenezer, 26
- Fianko Isaac, also known as Yaw, 35
- Besah Elizabeth, 24
- David Kudalor, 28
- Enoch Acheampong, 38
- Solomon Odei, 35
At the Asamankese Police Command, security has been tightened as detectives continue forensic checks on the recovered vehicles, including verification of chassis numbers and ownership histories.
All seven remain in custody assisting investigators, a report reveals. Police say early findings suggest the group is part of a wider network extending into Accra, where stolen luxury vehicles are allegedly re-registered with forged plates and sold to unsuspecting buyers.
