Five Officers Promoted After Foiling Armed Robbery at Kwafokrom Fuel Station

Ghana's IGP Yohuno promotes five officers after Kwafokrom raid response led to arrest of armed robbers in the Eastern Region.

Five officers of the Ghana Police Service have been swiftly promoted after their decisive involvement in the arrest of armed robbers who attacked a fuel station in the Eastern Region, following what authorities describe as a high-risk but well-executed tactical response.

The announcement was made by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, during a brief ceremony at Police Headquarters in Accra, where the officers were honoured for their role in dismantling a violent robbery operation along the Nsawam-Suhum highway.

The officers recognised for their conduct are Chief Inspector Eric Otoo, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Otu, General Sergeant Philip Amoah, Policewoman Constable Victoria Asiedu, and Policewoman Constable Rosemond A. Frimpong.

The commendations are linked to a violent robbery incident at the GOIL Filling Station in Kwafokrom, a busy settlement near Nsawam, where an armed gang struck under cover of darkness.

According to police accounts, the suspects stormed the station, intimidated staff, confined workers, and made away with the day’s sales after taking control of the facility.

A distress call from the scene prompted an immediate tactical deployment. The five officers responded quickly, moving to intercept the suspects in a coordinated operation that confronted the armed group before the situation could escalate further.

Their intervention disrupted the robbery in progress, with officers successfully overpowering the gang and preventing what authorities say could have turned into a far more severe violent incident. Two key suspects were arrested at the scene in connection with the attack.

In recognition of their conduct, the Police Administration approved a special reward package aimed at acknowledging bravery and reinforcing operational morale across the service. The decision was endorsed by the Police Management Board (POMAB).

Under the arrangements:

  1. Chief Inspector Eric Otoo has been granted direct entry into the Police Academy without examination, paving the way for commissioning into the senior officer corps.
  2. Chief Inspector Emmanuel Otu has also been offered direct admission into the Police Academy for officer training.
  3. General Sergeant Philip Amoah has been elevated to the rank of General Inspector with immediate effect.
  4. Policewoman Constable Victoria Asiedu has been promoted to Lance Corporal.
  5. Policewoman Constable Rosemond A. Frimpong has likewise been advanced to her next rank within the junior cadre.

The Inspector-General of Police and members of POMAB praised the officers for their professionalism, describing their response as disciplined and critical in preventing loss of life during the operation.

At the same time, the Police Administration issued a firm message to criminal networks operating across the country, stressing an intensified commitment to dismantling armed robbery syndicates and strengthening public safety.

According to a report, the arrested suspects remain in custody at the Eastern Regional Police Command, where they are assisting investigators. Police say further inquiries are ongoing to trace additional accomplices and recover weapons used in the Kwafokrom operation.
