B&FT’s Edward Frimpong Wins 4 IFEJ Awards

Sunyani-based business journalist, Edward Adjei Frimpong won in three categories and a special award at the 7th Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ)-Flamingo Awards 2021. 

The Business and Financial Times (B&FT) correspondent triumphed in the categories of Best in Local Economy, Best in Tourism and Best in Agribusiness. 

Mr. Frimpong was also presented with a ‘Special Award’ on account of his ability to win in three different categories, thus recognising the variety of his presentations and potential to excel in various aspects of financial and economic journalism.  

In recognition of his outstanding performance, the multiple award-winning journalist received citations of honour, plaques, an undisclosed cash amount and other prizes. 

A citation for the Best in Local Economy reads “Through an original, self-generated investigation, the author threw light on an emerging economic sub-sector with the potential to yield substantial socio-economic benefits for several rural communities and the country at large. 

“The story has a good chance of influencing policy direction. The outcome was a presentation which made for easy reading and understanding for even the ordinary reader on the one hand, and provided rich content for the policy maker and other interested stakeholders on the other hand.”

The award winning story for Best in Local Economy was “Cashew Processing: challenges, and opportunities in the sub-sector.” The others stories were “Kunsu: Deserted slave trade transit point-Beyond the Return should change the narrative” for Best in Tourism and “Cocoa Hand Pollination: Impact, challenges and prospects” for Best in Agribusiness. 

Other winners 

Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Editor-In-Chief of African Eye Report emerged as the overall winner of the 2021 IFEJ-Flamingo Awards. He won in the categories of Best in Health financing and Best in Natural Resources.

Graphic Business’s Maclean kwofie won the Business/Manufacturing category while Kingsley Asare of Ghanaian Times won Best in Finance. 

The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) was formed in 1990 to help develop the skills of journalists in financial and economic reporting. 

The 2021 IFEJ-Flamingo Awards was supported by the World Bank, Ghana Stock Exchange, MTN, Accra Brewery Limited, Melcom, Stanbic Bank, Vivo Energy Ghana and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST).
