In the wake of Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, veteran highlife artiste Nana Acheampong has shared a deeply personal tribute to his longtime music partner and friend, reflecting on a bond that shaped an era of Ghanaian music.
Acheampong, who formed one half of the iconic Lumba Brothers, took to Facebook to express his disbelief and sorrow over the passing of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba.
“It has been difficult for me to accept this sad news. Menua Kojo Fosu, why this shock?” he wrote, addressing the late star by his full name. “Hmmm, you have indeed done what the creator brought you on earth to do; you will forever inspire generations.”
The message struck a chord with fans, as Acheampong, more than just a collaborator, spoke as someone who had shared not only stages but memories and milestones with Lumba.
“My family and I are in pain. To the family of my beloved brother, may God hold you tight in this moment,” he added, extending heartfelt condolences to the Fosu family.
Together, the Lumba Brothers revolutionized Ghana’s highlife scene in the late ’80s and ’90s, crafting a sound that still resonates today. Their breakout 1989 album ‘Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu’ remains a touchstone of the genre and a testament to their unmatched chemistry.
Daddy Lumba’s death has cast a shadow over the music community, stirring a tide of grief nationwide as fans, fellow artistes, and industry figures mourn the loss of a voice that defined generations.
