Socrate Safo Reveals Dada KD Was Unhappy With How NPP Treated Him

Dada KD

Deceased highlife musician Dada KD may have given his all to the New Patriotic Party’s 2016 campaign, but according to veteran filmmaker Socrate Safo, he carried quiet disappointment over how the party treated him afterward.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie after the musician’s funeral, Safo remembered Dada KD as an artist who served with humility and never sought payment for his performances.

“He’s one person who was doing things, not expecting anything… Dada KD never charged for anything. He’s ready to mount the stage and move the crowd wherever we go,” Safo recalled.

Despite his dedication, Safo admitted that Dada KD felt the NPP did not fully appreciate his contribution.

“I also know that Dada KD was not happy about the way the party handled him. He was not happy because, the expectation at least, whatever appreciation that must come to him, didn’t,” Safo said.

He clarified, however, that the party did not completely neglect the singer, though the gestures made fell short of expectations.

“As a brother, I will not stand here today and say all was rosy. No. I didn’t say NPP didn’t take care of him. But not as expected,” he added.

On the other hand, Safo stressed that the nation at large celebrated Dada KD’s artistry and rewarded him with the admiration he deserved.

“I think Ghana treated Dada KD well. They appreciated his works. They followed him. His good works. It was not something like an entitlement. He earned it. Yes, he earned the respect of the pioneers,” he said.
