Christiana Awuni Slams ‘Selfish Interests’ in Daddy Lumba Family Clash

Ghanaian actress Christiana Awuni has waded into the simmering family tensions surrounding late highlife icon Daddy Lumba, condemning what she believes are ego-driven actions that risk diminishing his legacy.

During a February 12, 2026 appearance on Aluta FM with Fiifi Pratt, the actress made it clear that although she never had a personal relationship with the celebrated musician, his catalogue holds a special place with her.

Awuni admitted she had been caught off guard by the recent revelations tied to the dispute. Until now, she said, she was only familiar with Odo Broni and had no idea that Akosua Serwaa was recognised as his first wife.

“I haven’t met him before, but I love his music. I never knew of Akosua Serwaa being his first wife; I had only seen Odo Broni,” she said.

What troubles her most, she explained, is how the disagreement has spilled into public view. According to Awuni, the ongoing exchanges and counterclaims have done more harm than good, dragging Lumba’s name into unnecessary controversy.

“All I can say is I was so disappointed in the family for starting this mess and allowing people to talk about the man and drag his name into the mud,” she said.

She specifically mentioned Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, arguing that as head of the family, he should have stepped in earlier to calm tensions instead of allowing the feud to escalate.

Awuni did not mince words about what she believes is fueling the conflict. In her view, financial interests, not affection or respect, are driving some of the actions currently playing out.

“The people involved in this are in it for their own selfish interest. As long as Lumba receives royalties for his music, they will never stop. It was not because of love for Lumba or love for his wives. They just want money,” she stated.

Separately, Papa Shee has announced that a ‘Celebration of Life’ programme in honour of the late highlife star is scheduled for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Accra.
