Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has linked personal awareness to societal change, arguing that stronger mindfulness could help curb corruption and improve human behavior at large.
In an interview on Hitz FM on April 13, 2026, he reflected on governance and character development, saying many negative actions stem from a lack of self-awareness.
“Politicians will not be stealing our money if we practice mindfulness. People will not be envious or not clapping for others. Everyone will be happy for one another if we are all mindful of what we do,” he said.
He added that real change, in his view, starts internally, drawing on a biblical reference to support his perspective.
“They asked Jesus Christ where the kingdom of God is, and he said, ‘If someone says it’s left, or right, or up, they’re lying. It’s within you,” he stated.
Expanding on his idea of mindfulness, Okyeame Kwame described it as a practice of deep introspection and emotional awareness.
“Practicing mindfulness means to look inside, to understand your demons and angels. Make sure that you have the potential to be dangerous, but you’re continuously expressing your kindness. If it happens like that, you will be strong,” he shared.
He also challenged the common saying that “age is just a number,” arguing instead that aging carries deeper meaning and inevitability.
“I don’t think age is just a number. As you age, you’re getting closer to death. Once a person turns 40, they have initiated the process of dying,” he said.
