Taking over one of Ghana’s most talked-about entertainment shows came at a personal cost for MzGee, who says the criticism that followed her arrival on United Showbiz left her deeply wounded.
During a discussion on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the media personality spoke candidly about the storm that erupted after she was named host of the UTV programme.
Her appointment came shortly after reports that Nana Ama McBrown had stepped away from the show she had fronted for years. MzGee said many viewers quickly turned against her, accusing her of benefiting from McBrown’s exit and directing insults at her online and offline.
According to her, she tried to avoid any tension before accepting the role by reaching out privately to McBrown for her blessing. She explained that she believed the conversation would help clear the air and prevent unnecessary public speculation about their relationship.
MzGee also admitted she expected McBrown to publicly back her after the transition became official, especially considering the private exchanges they had before she accepted the hosting position.
Looking back on the controversy, she said the experience revealed how difficult many Ghanaians find it to embrace change, particularly when a beloved television figure is replaced.
Even with the backlash, MzGee said her time on United Showbiz became a learning experience that shaped her both personally and professionally.
